The ´Made in Nepal Products and Service Expo-2014´ concluded on Monday.

According to Nepali Young Entrepreneurs´ Forum (NYEF), the organizer of the event, the four-day event managed attracted around 40,000 visitors and recorded transactions worth Rs 20 million.

“The event was successful. We had more exhibitors this year compared to last year,” Sudharsan Basnet, media coordinator of the event, said.

The fair had more than 100 stalls showcasing Nepali products like readymade garments, home appliances, electric goods, cosmetics, footwear product, food products and pashmina, among others.

Saying that the main objective of the event was to provide platform for domestic products rather than making money, Basnet said the organizers also conducted a short research to collect feedback from the exhibitors and visitors. “Preliminary report shows visitors and exhibitors have responded positively to the expo,” he added.

“Though Nepali products are on part with international brands in terms of quality, they are lagging behind in the absence of effective branding exercise, “Hem Raj Dhakal, chairman of Heritage Carpet, said. He opined that such fairs have to be conducted more frequently so as to familiarize consumers with local products.
