Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has said it will initiate the licence renewal process of Nepal Satellite.

The licence tenure of Nepal Satellite will expire on February 16, said director at NTA Ananda Raj Khanal.

Nepal Satellite, which runs mobile service under the ‘Hello Mobile’ brand had acquired a licence on February 17, 2008, for five years. The company initially started telecom services from mid-western development region and was allowed to expand its services to other parts of the country in a phase wise manner.

The company has already started the process to expand its services in the western development region, according to it. Hello Nepal is now on the verge of expanding its services across the country after providing its services in some of the most difficult terrain in all the 15 districts of mid-western development region, the company said on its website.

The company’s licence condition will remain unchanged if it wants so, said Khanal. Nepal Satellite had acquired the licence paying Rs 2.5 million and is liable to pay only Rs 2.25 million as licence renewal fee according to the licence conditions. Ncell and Nepal Telecom pay Rs 21 billion as licence renewal fee.

Nepal Satellite can operate its services across the country after successfully completing its service expansion in western and far western regions.
